How do I enhance the Material Enterprise Search in SAP MDG?
To make new MDG Material fields searchable, extend data model MM first and then enhance the matching Enterprise Search connector/template for the active area (MATERIAL) and/or staging area (MDG_MATERIAL). Process flow
- Extend the standard MDG Material data model MM with the required attributes or entities.
- Determine whether the search scenario is reuse or flex, and whether it is an existing attribute, custom attribute, existing entity, or custom entity.
- For existing MARA attributes such as FORMT and MSTAE, extend entity MATERIAL and include Search Helps.
- Verify the generated Enterprise Search structure /MDGMM/_S_MM_ES_MATERIAL for staging search.
- Update SMT mappings MDG_BS_MAT_MAP_2PP and MDG_BS_MAT_MAP_2STA if they were not already maintained.
- Check whether the active-area MATERIAL template already contains the fields; if not, enhance it in Enterprise Search Modeler.
- Create or update the connector, then maintain request fields and applicable response fields.
- Schedule indexing in the Enterprise Search Administration Cockpit and wait until indexing completes.

Temporarily deactivate MDG_BS_MAT_PP_SEARCH when Enterprise Search enhancement is incomplete; QUERY can still search by ID and description.
Modeler → Software Component → Maintain Software Components
Create or maintain the software component used for Enterprise Search template enhancement.
General Settings → Data Quality and Search → Create Search Object Connector Templates
Create the custom Enterprise Search connector template such as ZMDG_MATERIAL.
General Settings → Data Quality and Search → Assign Search Object Connector Templates to Object Types
Assign the Material search template to object type 194.
Enterprise Search test report
Test the MATERIAL or ZMDG_MATERIAL connector with attribute-based search.
